Drawing has always played a big part of my life, as a child I spent many hours sketching members of my family and the pet dog and although my parents wanted me to go to art school, I didn’t consider making a career out of it and instead, had a variety of uninspiring jobs as a result. It wasn’t until I married and had children that I completed an A level in art & design at night school, this made me realise just how much I loved art. My career began in 1993 painting commissioned portraits which captured character and personality in pastel.I moved to Cumbria in 2007 and the change in scenery has inspired me greatly. My favorite medium has always been soft pastels and my work quite realistic, but I now also enjoy experimenting with acrylic and mixed media and find this to be challenging and the results exciting.
I have always had a love of architecture and this has inspired me to paint in a distinctly quirky style. I was born in a Lancashire mill town where terraced houses are all identical. I noticed that in rural and coastal areas, the rows frequently include buildings of different periods and sizes, I find this intriguing and I love to accentuate their individuality and add character.
