Laura lives and works from her home studio in Ilkley, set on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
“Many of my paintings comprise dramatic landscapes and seascapes inspired by the outdoors”.
“I like to work where the atmosphere is wild and windy where often sand, seashells and bits of heather get blown into the thickly applied oil paint and set there”.
Laura works predominantly in oil. Her bold use of colour and generous application of paint make for a distinctive style that allows her to capture a variety of subjects.
At the centre of Laura’s work is a quality of capturing the soul and atmosphere of the subject - an attempt to evoke a “feeling” rather than a representation. This is the essence of all her paintings, whether it is a fragile vase of flowers or a wild, unruly sea.
